Hello Pondoro Team, Some photos of our stay march31 – april 3 Han & Ineke, Dordrecht, The Netherlands There’s my toast

Mother lion’s cubs

We saw the cubs of the mother lion out in the open this morning and she has 5 cubs and not only 2 as 1st believed. We now have a total of 9 newborn cubs in our traversing area. They were very relaxed and acted totally oblivious to the vehicle. Well done Rul!

Big Boy and Mazinyo

We heard lions roaring throughout the night from across the river at Main camp.  The next morning, the 7th of April, just as we were about to leave camp for the morning drive we heard the 2 territorial males answering from our side. They must have heard the lions roaring from across the river and […]

Lion cubs at warthog kill

We found the lion cubs and their mother, the Noengu Mafazi, at a warthog kill on the 8th of April. They were totally relaxed in the presence of our vehicle and it was really special to watch them feed only meters away from out vehicle.

Lion cubs at waterbuck kill

Although sightings in general have been good the lion cub sightings provided the best photo oppurtunities. On the 4th of April we found the Noengu Mafazi and her 4 cubs feeding on a freshly killed waterbuck and this gave us some excellant photo oppurtunities.

Elephant photos

I prepared some photos for February’s ranger’s report and thought that it would be a good idea to put it on the blog. They were all taken at Ngala dam during the afternoon drive on the 21st and 22nd of February.

Male lion photos

We found the 2 big male lions , Big Boy and Mazinyo, drinking at  Ngwenya dam this morning. They must have killed something the night before as it seemed that their stomachs were just about ready to explode.  The light was beautiful.

Ntombi’s babies

All the babies are doing well. They are running everywhere and are really a treat for guests and staff alike. A wild mongoose male have joined the group and he is getting very relaxed as well. He is even sleeping in my room some nights.

1st sighting of Mother Lion’s new cubs

During the morning drive, 25 March, Shaun and his guests had the 1st glimpse of the Mother Lion’s newborn cubs. There seems to be at least two. We now have 2 lionesses with cubs and they are really adding value to our game drives. Keep watching this space for photos and videos of the new […]

Big Boy and Mazinyo

Two male lions were roaring right through the night next to the camp. The next morning, the 23rd of March, we found Mazinyo and Big Boy not far from the camp. They must have heard the intruders and came to do some inspection. I managed to take this early morning photos.

More lion cub photos

I am afraid that I am going to saturate eveyone with lion cub photos, but it is really so special that I do not think that anyone will mind. This photos was taken on the 22nd of March close to Xigamba dam. We spent a wonderful afternoon in their company and had some excellant photo […]

Lion cub photos

After searching unsuccessfully for hours  on the 19th of March for the cubs and their mother I drove to Xigamba Dam to stop for sundowners only to find them waiting for us next to the water. I took the photos using a special diffuser that fits over the spotlight so not to harm the cubs’ […]

Mazinyo

On the 22nd of March we saw a group of lions at Pride Rock and I took this photos of Mazinyo who is one of the dominant males of the York pride.

More new lion cubs

I eventually managed to get some photos of the lion cubs  on the 18th of March when we followed the Noengu Mafazi to where she was hiding them. On route to the cubs we saw her hunting and chasing a waterbuck and I was lucky enough to get a photo of that as well. Rul […]

Mazinyo

Hi Richard You are correct, it is Mazinyo. In fact Mazinyo means teeth in Zulu and he got that name from his one missing canine tooth. This happened years ago and does not seem to effect his hunting negatively.  Both are getting on in years, but I think that they still have a few years […]
