I haven’t uploaded any photos for the last 2 weeks and thought that I would put some on the blog as I had some time to kill.

Both buffalo photos were taken with backlighting. Back and sidelighting can provide for some very dramatic images and should always be tried out when at all possible. Full frontal light is nice, but can sometimes be boring.

On the 14th of April we saw a herd of elephants making their way to Ngala Dam and I drove to the dam to get in position beforehand. Unfortunately it was an overcast day, but that did not take anything from the experience of being within touching distance of a whole herd drinking. It is still a young bull, but he has the potential to be a big tusker one day.

I was looking for the cubs at Pride Rock and found this young male instead.

I used a spotlight to provide some extra light onto the young male lion. It can have a nice effect and sometimes work better and looks more natural than fill-in flash.

I took this images using a spotlight with a diffuser late in the afternoon/ early evening at the warthog kill.
