Black rhinos are one of the most endangered animals in Africa with just over 4000 left in the wild. The majority of them are found in South Africa. Guests going on a safari to Pondoro Game Lodge are privileged in that Pondoro is one of very few lodges open to Kruger National Park where one can stand a realistic chance to see both black and white rhinos.
Illegal rhino poaching is currently a huge threat to the survival of the species and huge amounts of money are being spend on anti-poaching activities. Pondoro has donated a private camp to be used as anti-poaching headquarters in the reserve as well as a quad bike to help with patrolling our vast reserve.
This is a beautiful video taken by one of our guides Rul showing the rare black rhino enjoying himself at the Balule day spa doing his version of a mud wrap.
