A male lion roaring next to the Pondoro safari cruiser on the 8th of June 2015. They roar to advertise their presence in an area and it acts as a warning for rival male lions to stay away as the territory is already occupied. His roar would also inform other members of the pride of where he is inside the territory. The power of the sound is incredible when close and the tremors can actually be felt on your body when a lion roars in your direction from only meters away. Humans can hear the sound from as far as 7 km away. They mostly roar during the night, or dusk and dawn when most active.
