What is the best way to spend Valentine’s Day – in the bush of course! Not only do you get to see amazing fauna and flora, but also here at Pondoro we go out of our way to treat and spoil our guests. We had hoped for a warm and sunny Valentine’s Day but unfortunately Mother Nature had other ideas, and instead gave us wonderful rain. However that did not put a romantic damper on things, and we moved our “hearty” breakfast setup to the Big Boy Lounge.

Valentine’s Day is synonymous with roses, and as you know we do not have rose gardens in the bush, so special handmade paper roses were hand-delivered to each woman staying at the Lodge by our own charming Armand. And better than a real rose, these will last a whole lot longer.

When lunchtime arrived, our cupid chef Percy made “love chicken burgers” because as they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

VALENTINE'S DAY

When the guests returned from the evening game drive, we gave them a few minutes to freshen up before we tried to woo them at the bar with some pink sparkling wine and strawberries. This was followed by a seven-course love affair meal made by our chefs Tsakani and Matshidiso. Just to make you a little bit jealous, some of what the guest had was Mamma Africa’s Love-Sick Chick on a Stick, Smoking Hot Ngulube Ribs and Heart-Breaking Melt in Your Mouth Chocolate Fondant.

However, the night did not end there. Whilst the guests where indulging in their wonderful meal, our lovely housekeepers Dorah and Alice did a romantic turndown in each room by running a hot candle-lit bubble bath. And what would a Valentine’s be without a chocolate surprise?

We sincerely hope that all of our guests ended the evening feeling that they had had a special Valentine’s Day and been suitably spoilt by the Pondoro Family.
