It has always been a dream of mine to photograph buffalo bulls fighting. I never had the luck, even after 19 years of guiding. So along came Rul, one of our guides, a few days ago and casually suggested that I have a look at a video he took. I could not believe my eyes when watching it for the 1st time. Truly National Geographic stuff. I do not know how you do it Rul, but you really seem to have this uncanny knack to see and find the most unusual and special animal encounters? Luck surely plays a part, but a tremendous amount of skill is most definitely involved. I quote the immortal statement by famous South African golfer Gary Player when confronted by a reporter that he is a very lucky golfer: “Yes, but just funny how the more I practice, the luckier I get”.
I would have loved to have been with you on the vehicle to see this. Might not be a bad idea to start following you around on safari drives…become a vulture or “makoti” as we refer to guides in the industry who only respond to sightings and never find their own animals.
