Guests often believe that lions cannot climb trees. How often have I heard people say that they will climb into the safety of a tree when stranded alone in the bush at night? Truth is that lions might not be the most agile of climbers and can look quite awkward and clumsy at times, but they can still climb into a tree better, faster and higher than any human I know. Many leopards who thought their prey were safely stashed away high up in a tree can testify to that. This video taken on the 21st of October 2015 of a young lioness clumsily walking along a fallen down tree makes a bit of a mockery of my previous statements, but don’t tell me you were not warned if ever you were to find yourself in the very unlikely position of being stuck in a tree with a hungry lion underneath.
